The Issue

The Covid Pandemic, Nationwide Lockdowns and the expansion of remote working has turned Britain into a dog loving nation to keep active during lockdowns. Taking advantage of the increased demands for puppies, unregistered and inexperienced breeders and puppy farmers have quadrupled prices to extortionate figures. Dogs are being cruelly and excessively bred for financial gain only, with no consideration for the dog or puppies welfare or safety. This financial gain witnessed by these 'crook' breeders has caused dog and puppy theft to increase significantly during the pandemic with 'thieves' stealing dogs and puppies from caring, loving family homes purely to cruelly make profit from these poorly treated and neglected animals. With it being a year since the first lockdown commenced, stricter rules are urgently needed to cap the covid stricken puppy prices, to eliminate financial opportunist 'criminal' breeders from over-breeding dogs or stealing innocent people's dogs to make profit only, and to ensure animal welfare is paramount by implementing stricter prosecutions and fines to punish these criminal breeders. Dog are treated as part of the family by most households, if a human family member was kidnapped or sold this family members loved belongings for financial gain then the laws in place would immediately arrest, prosecute and punish the 'criminal'. It is about time that criminals mistreating or neglecting dogs are punished the same way as would be done if a human had been mistreated or neglected. Dogs, their puppies and their innocent, devastated family members whose dog is missing need protection now before these problems spiral further out of control.
