Ryan Reece started this petition to UK Parliament

In the UK people are assured of quality, compliance, and humanity towards the treatment of animals by the Red Tractor symbol. This provides the consumer with a guarantee that the animals that they will be consuming have been treated with respect, dignity, and in line with the Five Freedoms. Many if not all supermarkets will not engage with producers if they are not registered with a quality assurance scheme; which ensures that the treatment of animals for slaughter is humane and to the highest standards.

Halal meat is a very different story. Whilst it is down to individual opinion regards the welfare of the animals being slaughtered this way. The consumer should have a right to know whether their food has been slaughtered in this manner.

This petition aims to create tighter regulation on the transparency of the Halal sector for the consumer. Many Fast Food Take Aways provide their consumers with Halal meat, without the consumer knowing this. It is the hope that this petition brings into effect a law requiring transparency to the average consumer as to whether or not the convenience food establishment (both eat-in, sit-down restaurants; and, takeaways) is serving Halal Slaughtered meat. Thus providing the consumer with greater knowledge of the treatment of the animal products they are eating. It is hoped that legislation comes into effect to ensure that all published material provides a clear stamp/logo to provide that their meat is Halal.
