Every year dogs and their owners, PTSD sufferers, veterans, and people with anxiety of loud noises have to endure the fear and stress of the noise of fireworks/firecrackers used by those displaying antisocial behaviour. It gets earlier every year (it's already started in my neighbourhood) and now there is no way of even being prepared for it as it happens earlier every year and at any time of day. Every year the government says there is enough legislation to deal with this and there isn't or it isn't being enforced. During the pandemic, this has got worse and something needs to be done.
In 2019, the response from parliament was "...retailers may only supply fireworks outside these periods if they obtain a license from their local authority", "The police and local authorities have powers to tackle anti-social behaviour, where it arises, caused by the misuse of fireworks",
"Kelly Tolhurst MP, asked the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) to develop a fact-based evidence base on the key issues that had been raised....including looking for data around noise and disturbance, anti-social behaviour, non-compliance, environmental impact, and the impact on humans and animals." Has the general public even been involved in the collection of data?
