My name is Ella and I am a teenager from the UK. Over the last few years I have become aware of various environmental issues such as plastic pollution and global warming. It seems clear to me that our planet is being destroyed and people aren’t doing enough to stop it.  This will affect my generation more than any others and we need to change now.

As you probably know, plastic is polluting our planet. 300 million tons of plastic are made every year. This plastic takes millions of years to decompose which means it is ending up in oceans and rivers and killing marine wildlife: one marine animal dies every thirty seconds from plastic pollution. There are also micro plastics in almost every water source on earth. Making plastic  contributes to global warming as it is made from fossil fuels.

One way to stop this problem is to just not use unnecessary plastic. The EU banned plastic straws and now nobody is using them, the government started charging people for plastic bags and now people try and reuse them. Over the summer I started noticed that we use a lot of plastic ice cream spoons. You get them when you buy an ice cream in a tub from a cafe. You get a plastic spoon in the lid of an ice cream tub when you go to a theatre. Its strange because there are plastic free alternatives, wooden spoons or metal spoons. 

I have started this petition to ban plastic ice cream spoons. It is aimed at the UK government as well as some companies that I have noticed use plastic spoons. I would really appreciate it if you can sign it so we can make a change. Thank you.
