Dear events colleagues

An update for you in a week in which we'd all hoped for something meaningful from the government, but nothing came. We had progress on the opening of certain outdoor events, which is good news for many, but nothing at all was said to address business events. This is a major disappointment, a significant oversight, and something we should all respond to.

Encouragingly, one of the MPs we have been lobbying, Andrew Slaughter, asked a direct question to the Chancellor in parliament about the events industry. If you haven't seen the clip, you can watch it here. Many thanks to Andrew and the people of Hammersmith.

That the issue was raised in the Commons shows the value of keeping the pressure up. The Chancellor's answer was unsatisfactory, but we will keep on asking. If you haven't yet contacted your MP, please do so using this simple form: Contact your MP

And if you haven't yet written to a local journalist, please do so using this template: Write to a journalist

We will keep asking for a return to business in the way most other major countries have allowed. In the meantime, we will ensure the Safer Events - A Framework for Action white paper is constantly updated with the latest guidance from public health bodies, the government and industry associations so we have a framework for making events happen again as soon as guidance allows. You can follow updates here:

Hire Space and Mash Media are committed to this cause and will continue to lobby the government and the media on behalf of this resilient and inspiring industry. We ask you to continue to support us by sharing this petition far and wide.

We are approaching 3000 signatures and growing quickly.
