Mathew Symes started this petition to UK Parliament and

We arrive at a time in our civilization where technology is advancing at an accelerated rate and there is no sign of slowing. Advancements in technology in the work place across all industries are cutting out the human factor and has been doing so for years and will continue to do so, no matter who wants it to or not.

I'm calling for a 4 day working week instead of the now 5, without a pay cut.

We are in a position right now, before technology creates mass unemployment across the nation, to allow ourselves to have a more comfortable life for when technology inevitably takes over the work force.

There is lots of money to be made for anyone at the top of any company that uses advancements such as algorithms, self learning AI and robots to increase productivity and reduce the amount of wages that need to be payed. However nice for those in that position, the masses however will be jobless and with no job comes many other problems for the health and safety of the individual and their family.

A recent study in New Zealand shows that after an 8 week experiment of working a 4 day working week, productivity increased by 23%. This has everything to do with the happiness of the employees and having an extra rest day.

Looking forward there is of course a high chance that technology will call for a 3 day working week. perhaps even someday advancements will allow humans to live a life without working for the monetary gain of those that own the monopolies.

We must plan for the future because it's coming and we don't want to be left without.

Please join me in understanding the need to improve the way we work so we can align ourselves with coming technology as to not create conflict of interests.

Thank you
