To stop the sale of fireworks in shops leading up to Bonfire Night

The Issue

Please support this petition for a ban on shops selling fire works on the lead up to Bonfire night.

It is not fair on our Human Health, Enviroment our poor pets, Wild Animals and Farm Animals.

Human health and Enviroment

Fireworks propel a cocktail of chemicals into the atmosphere, many of which can harm both people and the environment. The vivid colours in firework displays come from metallic compounds such as barium or aluminium that can have negative impacts on animal and human health.

Some Noise from fireworks can cause distress, especially as fireworks can sound like gunfire. The noise can also cause tinnitus and deafness, or aggravate a nervous condition. People who suffer from asthma can experience discomfort and epileptics can experience seizures following fireworks displays.

Wild animals

Wild animals such as deer are known to run in blind panic, increasing the number of animal-car collisions. Birds, in particular, suffer greatly every year. ... Even after the event is over, fireworks can continue to impact wildlife. Smoke from the explosions can cause damage to birds' respiratory systems.

Dogs

Fire works are a major source of anxiety for many dogs, resulting in symptoms ranging from depression, through panic attacks, to aggression. Dogs that fear fireworks may also generalise that fear to other noises, becoming oversensitive and generally noise phobic.

Cats

Cats and Fireworks. ... Like all wild animals, cats associate loud noises with danger, and will be stressed and fearful. We all know how lightning-fast a cat's reflexes are, and the sudden loud noise and flash of fireworks can cause them to bolt for safety, but in their panic it could be in any direction.

Figures published January 2018

The RSPCA say that it received its highest number of alerts about fireworks from worried members of the public last year – highlighting a 50 per cent rise since 2011.

Detailing how it received 382 calls, the charity highlighted the case of a dog that took three hours to be rescued from a six-inch gap between walls after being spooked.
