This is Near Sawrey sewage works. It spills untreated sewage into a site of special scientific interest, it breaches its permit by spilling illegally and now our new data shows it is having a chronic and adverse impact on the freshwater ecology of Cunsey Beck.
Check out our new blog which explores the Environmental Agency's regulatory oversight through an in-depth analysis of Near Sawreys environmental permit. This examination uncovers several concerning issues, including unrestricted phosphorus discharges, high ammoniacal nitrogen levels, high biochemical oxygen demand limits, frequent untreated sewage spills, and more.
The permit fails to sufficiently address the unique ecological significance of Cunsey Beck and is failing to protect the freshwater ecology of Cunsey. Once again the EA is demonstrating complacency or incompetence in protecting the Environemnt.
Our investigation, conducted in partnership with WildFish and Windrush Against Sewage Pollution, highlights the need for improved enforcement of environmental regulations and a stricter permit
