Stop nurseries charging fees for bank holidays & other days they'll be closed

The Issue

UK nurseries are charging parents for days such as bank holidays with the reasoning that you are saving your child's place in nursery, despite the fact that the nursery wouldn't even be open on a bank holiday.

It's unfair that nurseries, who are already charging a lot of money for their services to parents are able to charge for a day that they aren't open. You as a parent can't be saving a space for a day that the nursery had no intention of opening on.

As a parent myself who started placing my child in nursery on a Monday and a Thursday, I was charged for bank holiday Monday's, despite the nursery being closed on bank holidays.  So the nursery has cashed in on a day that they haven't had to open the nursery, look after my child or feed her.

It's expensive enough as a working parent to put your child in nursery without being charged for days that the nursery wouldn't even be open for.

We shouldn't be charged for the days that the nursery isn't open, as you're not taking up any space that another child could be using.

This affects all parents that pay for nursery fees and in my case would save me up to £472 a year and with a child or children every pound saved counts.

I would urge people to sign this petition to make it illegal for nurseries to charge fees for days that they intend to be closed themselves as on these days working parents have to find alternative childcare anyway, without having to pay the fees to the nursery despite them being closed and not offering any services to the parents.
