The Agriculture Bill passed its second reading in the House of Lords yesterday and entered the committee stage. This is the crucial time when peers can add amendments before sending the bill back to the House of Commons. Activists from an alliance of organisations are putting pressure on the Lords to include an import standards amendment like the one MPs rejected - we must build public support for such an amendment and make sure it passes in both the Houses of Lords and Commons. The MPs who rejected the original amendment need to know that they can't afford to do it again!

There are many positive elements to the agriculture bill, which are the result of tireless work by unions, activists, environmental groups and many more - all these elements will be completely undermined if UK law can be by-passed by importing cheap, low-standard produce.

So few people outside the farming world are following what's going on -it's up to us to make sure they understand what's at stake. Keep signing and sharing the petition to make sure that the *unamended* Agriculture Bill is stopped and the Lords step up to save our farms!
