Due to the ridiculous price increase of dogs - Dog Theft has risen by 125% since the beginning of lockdown.

Every single day I am reading the heart breaking stories of families losing their beloved pets. Dogs are not just animals you walk and feed every day:  they are members of the family, They are the comfort blanket of those struggling with mental health, they are the assistance in daily tasks for those who rely on help, they are the friend a child needs, they are so much more than just a pet and despite all this the punishment for stealing an animal is the same as stealing a laptop - a caution and a small fine. 

Due to the lack of punishment of these high value prizes organised gangs are now targeting dog owners for theft. Many even using violence. Dogs and young puppies are being stolen to be used for selling, breeding and even dog baiting in fights. I’ve seen puppies being stolen when they’re not even old enough to leave their mothers - Thefts are heartless and only care about the money - not about the love, care and attention each life needs. Something desperately needs to be done to stop this awful activity.

Please sign my petition for Dog Theft to be recognised as a serious crime with courts to prosecute offenders. Not only will this punish prosecutors but it will also help deter this criminal activity in the first place.  So much work by organisations is already being done to make the government notice but more action needs to be done for this terrible and growing crime.
