We are doing this as part of active citizenship to create awareness about animal welfare violations. In the research we have done, we found that in the UK there are many cases of animal abuse, violations of animal welfare laws and abandonment. Some cases have included, on the 8th September 2021, leaving 15 sick puppies on the side of the road huddled in a plastic crate with no food or water because they could not sell them easily, this resulted in 1 puppy dying and 3 so sick that they had to be later put down by a vet. Based on cases like this we believe that there should be new laws on the punishment of abandoning and abusing animals. Although there was a new law passed in 2021 called the Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Act that meant people who committed crimes against this law would face longer sentences in prison, this is not enough to stop people as there have still been many cases of abuse or abandonment since this law was passed. Due to this we would like to raise awareness about the cause so the government may see this is a big issue and more can be done to help the poor animals that are suffering.
