This is incredible! The petition to reduce the use of bird deterrent spikes on buildings has not only excelled the recent target of 5000, its now tripled that figure in a week! Thanks to lovely people like you is about to soar past 20,000.  Remember the higher we can get the petition to, the easier it will be to influence decision makers and get things changed.

Can you share the petition NOW with your friends to get it flying faster?

The photo in the links show birds can get caught and die because of unnecessary cruel bird deterrent spike strips on buildings. Find out below how many of these birds are endangered. It’s also worth being aware that many of the rooftop birds are being affected by climate change’s effect on our oceans. Every little bit we as people can do to reduce these unnecessary bird deaths will help stop possible extinction.

I recently saw a poor Herring Gull dangling dead from a roof top caught by a strip of spiked bird deterrents. I felt I must do something. That’s why I started the petition.

Help ensure that rooftop birds such as the stunning and now endangered Herring Gull featured in this update (Latest photo again by kind permission: Debbie Geraghty and taken in the beautiful fishing town of Looe in Cornwall) do not decline further.

Bird photos from Wales would be much appreciated too. I’m not the best with a camera myself! Please contact me by Facebook Messenger if you are willing to donate any shareable images. Thank you.

Help by sharing the petition (copy and paste) using the link above with friends and on social media. Ask people to please sign and share the petition themselves. If you’ve already been so kind as to have already shared why not share again. It may find people at a more convenient time. Thank you.

Birds don’t deserve to die because of these ill placed cruel bird deterrent measures. Help stop the killing birds such as the Herring Gull who simply want a place to land and thrive.

Which species of our rooftop birds are endangered or declining and why?

These declining rooftop birds need all the help we can give them. Ultimately you might think all birds deserve our help to ensure they thrive.

The Starling breeding population has declined by about 65 per cent in the last 30 years.

Incredibly all 7 species of breeding gull are of conservation concern.

The Herring Gull is now red listed because of severe declines in the breeding population.

Kittiwakes (also a species of gull) are declining because of a decline in its preferred prey of sandeels. It maybe that sandeels are declining or moving further north because of climate change.

An additional declining bird species that is occasionally seen on rooftops is the beautiful Turtle Dove. Populations have been decimated largely because of shooting.
Some birds of prey are also under threat again because of illicit shooting.
The good piece of news is that birds such as the Peregrine Falcon have recovered populations after being threatened by the post war use of pesticides which they ingest from their caught prey. More careful control of the use of pesticides has helped enable this.
