When Military Working Animals (MWA’s) give the best years of their lives serving our country, on retirement they deserve to be treated the same if not better than human Veterans. Along with other owners or retired military dogs, having spent thousands of pounds making sure my retired MWD (Military Working Dog) gets the best possible Vet care for his ailments in old age, I have decided to campaign to get our MWA’s the same funding for care which their counterparts in the USA get for example.

Service dogs save countless lives at home and abroad on operations. They keep our troops safe often at the very tip of the spear, then protect bases and search venues for large events (Such as London 2012, the Edinburgh Tattoo etc), keeping us all safe on home soil. The very least they deserve in return is free Veterinary care in their twilight years.

Potential simple solutions to this could be: A new section could be added to the Animal Welfare Act 2006, (Welfare of Retired Military Working Animals), or a completely new Statute (Act of Parliament) brought in. 

We owe it to our four legged friends to keep them safe in old age as they once kept us safe whilst in their prime. Help us return the favour, as is our Duty.
