NASP running a webinar to tell us what they do.

Yes you heard correctly, they are apparently running a webinar to tell us exactly what they do. 

If you don't have an hour to waste on fake news lets list their actual "achievements" over the last year or so:

1) Pandemic starts - No advice from the DVSA for months.
Belatedly NASP member launches scheme where you have to pay to prove you are teaching key workers despite this not being legally necessary.  NASP writes a strongly worded email to outgoing CEO Gareth Lewellyn about the DVSA handling of the crisis and lack of advice to ADIs. 

Result - The reply to the email, (if one was ever written) was never published and quietly forgotten about by the DVSA and NASP.

After an outcry from ADIs at profiteering by NASP by asking for payment to join the nonsense "key worker" register, NASP seeing the push back from its members (ie cash cows) backed down . 

2) DVSA restart testing and close waiting rooms and toilets to ADIs. 

Result - NASP tries to claim the credit after a number of ADIs complain to the H&S Executive which force the DVSA to reopen most of its facilities.

3) DVSA change Standards Check critieria with no consultation. Even NASP claim "we aren't being consulted". NASP relegated to humiliating climb down saying they've asked the DVSA to consider it a pilot only. 

Result - NASP Ignored, DVSA continue with its plans.

4) DVSA plan to scrap B+E tests with no real consultation. At the 11th hour NASP starts writes a letter to the DVSA 

Result - NASP Ignored - DVSA continue with its plans.

5) DfT and DVSA instrumental in changes to the highway code that will almost certainly result in an increase in rear end collisions to learner drivers while everyone else ignores the changes. 

Result - No campaign by NASP, DVSA continue with its plans. 

6) DVSA plan to make learners wait a month for retests and mandate the displaying of badges in cars for tests to help with the administration of its revised Standards Check procedure that NASP already nodded through.

Result - NASP wait 4 months and then point us to a DVSA survey, any negative outcome of which will be ignored by the DVSA.

Final result? - Up to you - we need an independent enquiry into the DVSA and a pause on any changes to legislation it plans while the enquiry is being undertaken.  NASP only listen to the ADIs it claims to represent when its funds are under threat, so think carefully about renewing your subscruption to any NASP associations. 

Also if your learners don't want to have to wait a month after a failed test then ask them to sign our petition as well.

The DVSA need to realise that they are civil servants and answerable to the public and not the other way around, and if they won't then the agency and its management need to be scrapped and replaced with one that will properly serve the public.
