Ban ethylene glycol based AntiFreeze. It is deadly to pets. There is a safer way.

The Issue

Most people are unaware of the danger to pets from ethylene glycol based antifreeze poisoning.

Ingesting the smallest amount can cause kidney failure and death, especially in cats.

Ethylene Glycol based Antifreeze is deadly to pets, thousands of animals have died from ingesting the liquid which is used in all engines, The problem lies in the fact that antifreeze contains ethylene glycol which is extremely toxic to both people and animals. But there is a safer way.

Antifreeze products for automotive use containing propylene glycol in place of ethylene glycol are available, and are generally considered safer to use, as it possesses an unpleasant taste in contrast to the perceived "sweet" taste of toxic ethylene glycol-based coolants, and only produces lactic acid in an animal's body, as their muscles do when exercised

The high percentage of cats dying each year because of this is heartbreaking. They can walk past a car that has used Ethylene Glycol based antifreeze and then go on to lick their paw and just this tiny amount can kill them. It is a slow and painful death. We need to protect and beloved cats.

I propose we ban Ethylene Glycol based Antifreeze and use the safer option of propylene glycol based Antifreeze. If this can't be done, then we ask you to at the very least to add a bitterness to Ethylene Glycol based Antifreeze as this will deter cats from drinking something that is so sweet and attractive to them. The USA already do this of their own free will. We must follow suit. I don't know why we don't already. It's so simple.
