The Issue

In view of the recent concerns of obesity in women I/we urgently request a review of present treatment of Thyroid Disorders and the effects it is having on body weight/comorbidity.  Scientific Evidence proves that differential treatment is both more beneficial, preventative and thus cost effective in the long term.  Statistically there is a high volume of  patients  having to fight to be heard and have their symptoms taken seriously yet these are very real. The effects on their health is detrimental both physically and mentally.  The cost to the country from both this and the comorbidity is excessive and yet with corrected treatment at the outset can both be prevented and end costs reduced.  (To clarify - the thyroid gland controls most functions in the body, if the levels are not being read/treated correctly, whilst thyroid may appear to be being controlled, other areas are being compromised and break down causing e.g. incorrect metabolism, leading to diabetes in long term, eye sight being compromised leading to blindness and or increased hospital visits.  Degradation of mental ability again causing increased resources, joint disorders again requiring increased resources.  The list is endless not to mention affecting ability to work  but is preventable. Medical Practitioners need to be trained to understand, appropriate blood tests should be more readily available and correct treatments which are proven.  These initial costs may be higher however less costly than having to treat breaking down systems.
