Where Branden Pearson has gone within UFSG, pain has followed. Hurt has followed. He has divided students at every turn in his unending pursuit of achieving power.
In that pursuit, he has silenced LGBTQ+ voices within the UF Community with his deliberate use of homophobic slurs—including referring to an LGBTQ+ student as an “incompetent and incapable f*ggot”. He moved to adjourn a meeting as Majority Party Leader of Impact Party before the Student Senate could hear legislation supporting non-cisgender students who ran for Student Government office, and a resolution that would've commemorated the anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub shooting. When I asked him to apologize, he refused. When I asked why he didn't undo his motion, he told me he didn't want to.
I brought all of these concerns to both the Student Senate and Student Body President Trevor Pope to no avail. I've brought these concerns to our former Senate Presidents Shaw and Dunson to no avail. I've used every possible avenue for someone to listen and hear the shouts, pleas, and begs for him not to be appointed to yet another position of power. He will only continue to hurt students at the University of Florida, which is supposed to be a welcoming and accepting place. I plea for your support in asking our Student Government Officials to stop this homophobic individual from ever hurting another student again.
Please tell the Gator Party Caucus and Student Body President Pope that these actions aren't acceptable. Please make sure your voice is heard even when the people you elected refuse to listen.
