Save Aarey Forest: The last Green Lungs of Mumbai
2,702 trees in Mumbai’s Aarey forest, Mumbai's green lungs, will be axed for a car shed for Mumbai Metro-3.
We demand that Aarey forest be left alone, and that Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) consider alternate locations for the metro car shed.
Why should we care?
Spread over 16 sq km (which connects to 104 sq km of Sanjay Gandhi National Park), this protected area makes Mumbai one of the rare cities to have a jungle within its boundaries.
- Today the whole world is fighting the climate change. While the entire world condemned the burning of Amazon forest, authorities in Mumbai decided to cute over 2700 trees in Aarey Forest.
- By destroying the Aarey forest we are directly taking away the Lungs of Mumbai. Think of Aarey as Mumbai's Amazon.
- Aarey has been home to more than 100s of rare and different birds and animals.
- Different options are available for Metro Car shed like backbay, BKC, Kanjurmarg etc. Why cut Aarey Forest?
"Under Article 48A of the Directive Principles of State Policy, the state shall endeavor to protect and improve the environment and safeguard the forests and wild life of the country. In addition, under 51A (g) of the Fundamental Duties of India it shall be the duty of every citizen to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wild life, and to have compassion for living creatures."
I feel as citizens it is our duty to raise our voices to safeguard our future!
Latest Update: MCGM and MMRCL has told Bombay hight Court that the Trees Cutting will not happen for next 15 Days.
So raise your Voices! Make them change their decision.
We are championing the cause of climate change globally and we must save whatever we can, where we have an option.
