Student leadership is endowed with the obligation to provide impartial, just, fair, leadership to the student body. This is that which holds the fibres of equality, tolerance and a respect for diversity intact. The student body consists of people who come from different walks of life, varying backgrounds and diverse sexual identities. Student leadership's ethos is one which needs to ensure that an environment which is conducive to mutual respect and tolerance is always maintained and encouraged. Current leadership has failed, dismally, in doing so. Current leadership cannot be trusted to be impartial, fair, just and respectful of diversity. Current leadership has a pre-occupation with othering anyone who does not fit into a particular category. Current leadership cannot be trusted to respect the experiences of the LGBTQIP communit, current leadership has even gone as far as interrogating the existence of the LGBTQIP community. An already victimized and marginalised group has been made to feel vulnerable by current leadership, whom it entrusted with power. We say, our pain must resonate, our experiences must be respected, our struggles must be dealt with compassion and a commitment to understanding. We are not an 'other', our existence will not be interrogated, we are important, we are of value, we matter. Transformation will be nonsensical if it does not include equality for all.
