Coach Powell Williams was removed from his position as Teacher and Head Varsity Soccer coach for boys and girls of Weddington High School because of a recording taken of him by a student on March 16 2021.   This student spliced the video to make him look racist but UCPS immediately cleared him of any racist motive but still suspended him and then moved him to Porter Ridge HS. He did not teach a classroom at that school nor did he coach. His current students at WHS and his players were neglected and suffered because of this.  UCPS Human Resources  now have decided he can teach and coach anywhere in the district, EXCEPT Weddington, where he has been for 14 years with a perfect record.  He has won 5 state Championships, named coach of the year many times regionally and statewide (even this year until they removed it), has been selected to speak at graduation by the senior class multiple times, even as recently as this year?We have been fighting for 4 months and UCPS will not do the right thing.  Soccer starts on Aug 1 and they have not named a coach but refuse to allow him to coach. My son is a sophomore and came to WHS to be coached by Coach Williams, along with several other families.   The multitude of texts from current and past soccer players and the hundreds of emails and messages from former students and parents wanting him to return to Weddington, emphasize how much of an impact Coach Williams has had on these kids in the Weddington community. For a state and community that beg for committed teachers who care less about a paycheck and more for our children’s growth and future, it is astonishing that UCPS would treat a teacher like Coach Williams with such ultimate disrespect.  Please assist me in showing UCPS just how much OUR community needs men like Coach Williams involved with our students and athletes.
