Here is an example to a letter I wrote to my local MLA, thank you for joining this petition! Let’s get motivated!

Dear Mr. Ceci:

I am writing to urge you to support an increase in the wages of Community Disability Service Workers immediately by a minimum of 10%, and permanently by at least 25% in the 2022/23 budget. There are over 15,000 people employed in Community Disability Services across Alberta.

We have not received an increase to our wages since 2014. Workers cannot keep up with the basic-cost-of-living rises, much less have a wage that is fair for job requirements. Without an immediate increase, and a longer-term permanent raise, Alberta will no longer have a workforce to support people with disabilities in the near future.

I have been employed in Community Disability services for 12 years. I help the people I support with most aspects of their daily lives. I am passionate about my work and the people with disabilities I support. My work is both essential and demanding. It makes a significant difference in people's lives and in society, yet the Government of Alberta does not provide adequate funding for fair and competitive wages.

Unfortunately, the current reality is that I, like many of my co-workers, may soon have no choice but to explore other career paths where I will be properly compensated and valued for the work that I do.

Will you commit to supporting both immediate and long-term increases to the wages of essential disability services workers across the province?
