Overhaul and Update the UConn Student Administration System

The Issue

The University of Connecticut's Student Administration System is outdated, glitchy, confusing, and difficult to use. I often login to the system and, after an hour of re-logins, browser restarts, and new searches, leave without having accomplished what I initially set out to do. As a UConn senior, one would think I'd be able to navigate the page with relative ease. But every time I try to choose classes or pay my fee bill, I feel like I'm scouring a body of foreign text. The entire user interface is outdated, and has barely changed in the four years I've been here. I've tried to use Student Admin on three separate browsers, even installing Mozilla Firefox by the suggestion of the "help and support" team. The website usually doesn't work at all on Chrome and Safari, constantly redirecting the user to the login page. In Firefox, the user is told, "you are not authorized to access this component. Contact your system administrator” after less than 10 minutes of inactivity. We're not authorized to choose our own classes? And who is the system administrator? My complaints are echoed by the university community - one need only look on Twitter or Facebook during class pick times to see a multitude of frustrated posts. While I could write pages about the annoyances of the system, the bottom line is that it needs to be changed. As part of their in-state tuition expenses, UConn charges a $75 Technology Fee. $75 x 17,528 = $1,314,600. I, and others from the university community, am requesting that the administration use a portion of this money to overhaul this outdated system. Thank you.
