Either a change of venue to accommodate all students interested in attending, or more tickets should be available for student to attend Hillary Clinton's lecture for Wednesday, March 5, 2014.

The Issue

After giving up a nights sleep to wait in line - some of us starting at 2am - for the opportunity to see Hillary Clinton speak, it became clear that the administration at UCLA had scarcely thought out the distribution of student tickets for the Luskin School event this month. Asked not to line up before 6 am, a stampede of nearly 2000 students were left in complete disorder to fight for a selection of raffle tickets which in the end, may or may not grant them entrance to the event.  Inviting Hillary Clinton to speak, it should be our University's priority to include as many students as possible and yet it seems that the outside tickets sold at $250-$500 are more important. This petition asks UCLA to refocus the administration's efforts to focus primarily on the students. To achieve this, the way in which student tickets are distributed as well as the venue in which such events are hosted needs to change. The students who attend this school are striving for greatness and her words as an established politician should be aimed at the leaders of the future, not the funders of today.
