Move the Philosophy and History of Education module online @ UCC

Move the Philosophy and History of Education module online @ UCC
The Issue
The philosophy and History of Education exam should be moved online because:
1. It is not safe to sit the exam in person given
a. The new covid variant (omicron).
b. The sheer number of us.
c. We do not want to bring covid into our homes for Xmas.
d. The module has been online all semester because it has not been deemed safe by UCC to have it in person.
e. We do not want to further spread covid in our placement schools and put our colleagues and students at risk.
2. The exam is open book.
3. Many of us and our families are high risk/vulnerable/immunocompromised and we feel we are being disregarded.
4. It is not in line with government or UCC's recent recommendations.
5. It provides incentive for pme students with covid or other symptoms to attend the exam to avoid penalties or repeat at a later date.
6. It could prevent international students who must pass a pcr test to return home for Christmas.
7. It penalises students with covid 19 who cannot sit the exam, but may have been able to from their homes.
Above all it disregards our safety and wellbeing and the safety and wellbeing of our families, colleagues and students.
We've politely asked UCC education to reconsider their position on the exam and have been told no. Now it is time to take things further. Please sign the petition.
