Join Me in Boycotting Uber Eats!
The Issue
As a bicycle courier in Atlanta, working for Uber Eats was an easy way for me to pick up a few extra dollars while working my other jobs. The additional income in part led to the freedom to start serving my own customers which was huge.
So why I am now asking you to boycott the company?
Most people are aware of the numerous scandals that Uber has struggled with over the past few years but what most people don’t know about is Uber’s close partnership with McDonald’s - a company that is currently under international public scrutiny for allowing its suppliers to abuse millions of animals every day. Despite knowing about McDonald’s support of animal cruelty, Uber Eats continues to promote McDonald’s more heavily than any of its other offerings - they’ve even strengthened their branding with the launch of their exclusive “McDelivery” program. Atlanta is full of great food options but if you were to open your app right now, which company would you see at the top of the restaurant list? McDonald’s.
After I found out about the horrific treatment of chickens at the hands of McDonald’s, I couldn’t, as a consumer and part of the ever-growing community of on-demand delivery services, work for a company that would blindly stand by and support McDonald’s unethical business practices.
And that’s why I quit my job at Uber and am now urging you to boycott Uber and Uber Eats. As consumers we vote with our dollars and our choices. By using a different food delivery (as well as ride hailing!) service, we can send a signal to Uber Eats that poor policies and irresponsible partnerships make for bad business!
