Tubal Ligation Should By Law Not Require a Man's "Consent"
The Issue
I read various instances of women having to go through hoops and get a man's consent to have an elective procedure for tubal ligation ("tubes tied"). In both instances, the anecdote indicated that while their respective doctors would not perform the procedure upon first consultation, their respective male partners had no such hurdles to overcome to get a vasectomy.
Examples:
When we solely rely on private doctor practices to "do the right thing," we're unfortunately bound to get these results.
This is an injustice that makes the US look like Saudi Arabia.
Let's meet the challenge of equality in the 21st century instead.
We the undersigned demand FEDERAL legislation to specifically require only a WOMAN's consent to her own tubal ligation and similar procedures, and a removal of unnecessary hurdles that we see in the above examples.
