Reduce livestock on public lands

The Issue

There are currently millions of domestic, privately owned livestock ranging on public lands. These animals destroy the public lands and decimate the ecological balance, all the while our beloved wild horses are being rounded up, traumatized and ending up faced with not only the destruction of their freedoms, protections and families, but faced with the real danger of slaughter, neglect, abuse, etc. BLM claims that the wild horses are destroying the environment, while allowing millions of livestock to graze the same Herd Management Areas.

We, the public, request that our public lands be preserved for wild horses and that the number of livestock permitted to graze our public lands be greatly reduced to allow for the native and naturalized species to thrive.

This petition is specifically to request that cattle, sheep and goat AUM's (livestock animal unit month) be reduced to achieve numbers lower than designated AML's (Appropriate management levels of wild horses).

We ask that wild horse AML's be set above scientifically proven levels for genetic viability in order to keep the natural balance of the environment and for the protection of our natural resources, range lands, and the wild horses that live there.

We ask that no round ups or sterilization be utilized until a wild horse to livestock ratio of 5:1 (AML:AUM) be attained.
