I'm encouraged to note that some members of Congress are beginning to listen and respond do our message. That annexation of the West Bank is the wrong direction for US policy.
Two weeks ago, Representatives Jan Schakowsky and Ted Deutch co-authored a "Dear Colleague letter to Secretary of State Pompeo. In that letter, they warned of the current risks and policy pitfalls of allowing Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to annex the illegal settlements and significant portions of Area C in the West Bank. The fact that so many prominent American Jewish lawmakers, and nearly the entire Democratic Caucus signed the letter made an impact in both Washington, DC, and in Jerusalem
Today, another letter "Dear Colleague" letter, penned by representitive Alexandria Ocasio Cortez for the House, and sponsored by Senator Bernie Sanders in the Senate, is again going to Secretary of State Pompeo. Even more strongly worded than the earlier letter, this message to the administration is that they must cease their support for annexation or risk funding to the state of Israel. Some legislators will be hesitant to sign on, and that is where we come in. We must keep up the pressure.
