Hi all --

Nearly 200 days ago, I walked out of my classroom to protest gun violence. I wasn’t alone - thousands of other students across more than 2,000 schools joined the National School Walkout. We did it to bring attention to the anniversary of Columbine, to the epidemic of guns in our schools, to the idea that this was our status quo.

I wish I could write you and say that our work was done. But unfortunately, the past week alone has shown us just how much more work there is to do in order to build a future that is safe for all.

That’s why we’re going to #WalkoutToVote. At 10 am local time on Election Day, November 6th, students across the country of all ages will walk out of their classrooms and go vote.

Can I count on you to join us?

Sign up to host a walkout: https://walkouttovote.org/host-event/

OR find one near you: https://walkouttovote.org/#map

We know that walking out of our classes and homes at 10am on Tuesday can’t bring back the lives lost in Squirrel Hill, or at Butler High School in North Carolina. It can’t bring back the 52 lives lost in school shootings this year, or erase the memories of the 83 times this year along that gun violence has made our schools unsafe spaces.

But we do know that together, united, we can make our voices heard and push towards a future free from gun violence in our schools, synagogues, and public spaces.

Hope to see you on Election Day,

Lane
