Animal abuse comes in many forms, including deliberate harm as well as a person's failure to take care of an animal. Government officials need to understand that animal abusers need to be dealt with with serious consequences. A person that abuses an animal should serve just as much as a person who abuses a child. 

Last november, the senate passed a bill that made animal abuse a federal felony with a jail sentence of MAXIMUM 7 years. However most states will only give you up to a year.

7 years should be the MINIMUM.

Most convicted animal abusers get much less and the majority only have to pay fines. 

These fines go up to $25,000, but most state laws don't exceed $5,000. Also, this matter should be made a federal and only a federal issue, not a state-level one which varies drastically by which u.s state the abuse was committed in. 

Any humane person can agree that no sum of money can take back the pain of an innocent animal that was knowingly tortured by its owner for months, sometimes years on end. Sadly, many cases of animal abuse even result in death. 

my goal is to get rid of a fine for animal abuse altogether. People like this should not be let off the hook by paying a few hundred dollars. They need a real, deterrent punishment for even having the capability to torture an innocent animal. 

I am very young but want to start early to make a change. One press of a button can change the life of an animal and put it's abuser behind bars. I can't do this alone.
