(CNN)- “It's been nearly 200 years since white performers first started painting their faces black to mock enslaved Africans in minstrel shows across the United States. It was racist and offensive then, and it's still racist and offensive today.”

The act of Blackface is detrimental to the image and safety of Black people. It desensitizes people not the crimes of racism, but desensitizes aggressors to committing crimes against us. It’s dehumanizing, derogatory, and endangering.

Hate Speech is any form of expression through which speakers intend to vilify, humiliate, or incite hatred against a group or a class of persons on the basis of race, religion, skin color sexual identity, gender identity, ethnicity, disability, or national origin. 

Blackface is the physical manifesto of the n-word and should no longer be allowed to have a platform. I’m calling on our representatives to make blackface a hate crime and banned from social media.
