As of today, millions of students and families across the country will go broke or into debt to pay for tuition as schools transition to an online learning base. While colleges students usually struggle with debt from student loans, or with working minimum wage jobs to make tuition, the Covid-19 pandemic will have most of the country’s college youth paying for facilities, residence halls, dining services, labs, utilities and insurance while not participating in any of these!

This situation effects every college student, but disproportionately effects lower-income families who don’t have the means to pay and do not even see the benefits of their money.

Kids and families coming from poor communities have struggled already so far to get here. Black and Brown kids have fought against odds and schools are adding onto that having them pay for things that are unnecessary. People like myself come from those communities. We don’t want to be exploited any longer.

This is unacceptable and as a united system every student and family members name shows that we want change. The already outrageous student debt crisis is enough to call for a reduce in the price of college, but as we continue into these classes and learn from our laptop screens we will not  pay for an inflated and inconceivable price tag.

Many may argue that tuition is the main source of revenue for employees, and they would be correct. Yet, only around 27% of what students pay goes to the staff (schoolmoney.org). The staff deserves to be paid so what we ask is a reduce on the price that will not be utilized to benefit the students.

And as things stand, the current blasphemous price tag is already an accumulation of exploitation of young students, along with price gauging universities have unfairly utilized. We will not pay for anything we do not use. As the next generation of students we say enough is enough. Please sign below to make your voice heard!
