Keep our school funding
Keep our school funding
The Issue
During this unprecedented pandemic so many have seen loss (i.e. economic, physical/mental health, housing, etc.). Morrisville-Eaton School District has continued to contribute all they can and more to ensure our children are receiving an education and the support they need during these times.
Whether you are parent, community member, or educator - please sign this petition. Our students should not have to suffer such a crippling loss that would ripple through our community with a 20% deficit of funding for our schools! Morrisville-Eaton Central School District relies on NYS to fund 70% of it's budget. Our school tax rate would need to increase 50% in order to fill the gap left by a 20% deficit of NYS aid.
The children of NY do not get to choose the community that is funding their education. Financially penalizing the poorest districts the most, would be contradictory to everything the "No Child Left Behind" and the "Every Student Succeeds Act" were meant to embody. With a loss of aid at this level, if it becomes permanent, would result in the elimination of nearly every non-required program the district offers. Non-mandated programs such as Kindergarten and Pre-k, electives, social-emotional support structures, career and technical education, sports, clubs, drama, music, art, and so much more are all at stake. These programs are supports for the students to be, and become, successful academically.
The Morrisville-Eaton Central School District opened it's doors full-time for any families that desired in-person instruction, as was emphasized a priority by President Trump. Our district has been full time operation since September 8th. Our students have shown us all what it means to persevere and to be resilient with their abilities to wear masks and shields while learning. School is a safe haven for so many, and the heart of countless others - students, staff, educators, parents, and community members. The inability to provide public schools with their full State Aid is a direct result of the pandemic effecting NYS revenue resources. Please provide relief to schools that matches the relief the Federal Government gave to banks, the auto industry, and airlines when crisis hit. Provide funding to schools at a level that allows students in rural districts the same types of opportunities that are afforded to students in wealthy districts.
We have all experienced so much loss throughout these unexpected months, and life has truly turned upside down for most. Please, do not support the toll the pandemic has already taken. Our children's educational present and future depend on it.
We urge you to vote for no cut in our schools aid and for Federal relief for our schools. Our Warriors community wants to hear your response.
