“My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed,” said Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in a statement dictated days before her death.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg dedicated her life to fighting for the marginalized. Her life and life’s work deserves deliberation on this matter. Honor her wishes with decency and decorum. 

Chief Justice John Roberts released a statement:

”Our nation has lost a jurist of historic stature. We at the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague. Today we mourn but with confidence that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her, a tired and resolute champion of justice."

Senator Chuck Schumer released a statement:

“The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president.”
