The United States Congress should amend the Land and Water Conservation Fund to receive more funding for acquiring more land, because it would yield significant benefits to both the environment and the economy. Currently, a large amount of natural land in our country isn't receiving federal protection, so it is all at risk of being harvested for its resources or being cleared for space. When natural land is federally protected over long periods of time, it creates many benefits to the environment, like improving the overall quality of the land and neighboring lands, protecting endangered species, and helping reduce greenhouse gases. Land conservation can also generate lots of income and boost economic growth through tourism with National Parks and Reserves. If we act now, we will be able to preserve the environment and improve the economy for future generations.
