PROTECT CHILDREN FROM RADIATION! Extend comment deadline.
The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) is rewriting its radiation regulations using documents that are not open to the public. Industry, however, has access to these documents. This goes against open and democratic principles of governance.
These potential regulations will affect workers and public, including vulnerable children.
NRC must turn over the documents and extend the comment deadline, giving us the resources and time needed to comment properly.
- Docket ID NRC–2009–0279
U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission
I am writing the US NRC to request an extension on the comment deadline for Docket ID NRC–2009–0279, for at least six (6) months.
NRC is using documents that are unobtainable by the public to decide how much radiation exposure we, and our children, will be asked to suffer. However, industry has the means to easily access these documents if desired.
Additionally, many of the referenced documents are most likely long, with dense technical text and charts. NRC has taken a number of years to write its proposed rule even with full access to these documents. NRC should, therefore, not expect the public to be able to obtain, read and assess the basis for this rule in a few short months. Therefore, we ask for a 6 (six) month extension for time to comment in a meaningful way.
