A petition has been in progress to save and protect our national recreation areas from major renovations such as hill top Campground in the spring mountain national recreation area. Good day. My name is Kathleen. I am the manager and resident at hilltop campground. Connecting with all who come to camp at hilltop, a major concern and act of protection has been implemented by everyone who chooses to be at hilltop campground. Hilltop campground is the last campground in the spring mountains national recreation area that is truly not glamorized or commercialized. The visitors who choose this area of the mountain prefer it the way that it is. Horse's, deer, endanger butterflies, insects of all sorts, many species of birds indigenous to the mountain, roam, breed and reside here. Increase in tent area is possible without destroying trees. Everyone who camps here needs to stake into the ground. Sandy designated tent pads are offensive and eliminates society to be creative and free to choose where they are comfortable. Not to mention your Sandy tent pads do not allow for proper staking of tents creating the loss of equipment. Picnic tables in hilltop have much history. Everyone who comes here admire the rustic tables as they are. I have a family who gathers here every year as a memorial for their son who is no longer with us. His engravings and art work are carved into the tables. Everyone I speak with like the tables as they are. New fire pits and grills, road renovations, water access and drainage upgrades are needed. This is the extent of the work the community would like to see in hilltop campground. A petition, being signed on line as well as hand written is building quickly. This mountain is a life force area for all of the surrounding areas and must be protected and preserved for the health and well being for every one and every thing. Please think about what is going to occur. Campers who choose hilltop do not like the destruction and glamorization that has occurred in the Kyle canyon and Lee canyon areas. Serve all of humanity by caring for and protecting this mountain. Leave this campground as it is. The trees, the creatures, the life force which creates life here. For the ones who feel connected and have a place to go in the spring mountains that has not been heavily renovated. Please contact me so we may discuss this further.
