REQUIRE ABSENT PARENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THEIR CHILDREN'S LIVES!!

The Issue

There are too many children in the world who are hurting from abuse and neglect. Children need their parents, both parents. Some people create kids and act as if it never happened. There is no way a person should be able to walk away freely from such a responsibility and leave the other person to suffer as a single parent with zero involvement from the other. Shouldn’t that fall under some type of offense that’s deserving of jail time?

It shouldn’t be seen as one need to make better decisions or it wouldn’t have happened. Most people didn’t know they’d be doing it alone or probably wouldn’t have had a child. Some women are raped and impregnated. There are many different scenarios. Raising kids is hard with both parents, so imagine not having help from the other person. Single parenting is one of the hardest most stressful things one could ever imagine, and can be a real tragedy.

It seems there are laws around everything but this. It’s not only money a child needs. They need time, love and emotional support more than anything. So why is there only a law requiring monetary support and not physical? It should have been a law a long time ago. Unless they are a threat to the child's safety there is no way they shouldn’t be forced to be in that child’s life. There could be supervised visits for those who may have some issues but not necessarily a threat to the child. Even once or twice per week, month etc. is better than nothing. Refusing to be there for their children should result in prison time. Period. Just like child support obligations. Somebody has to teach these people to “wrap it up” if they don’t want to be responsible for the outcome.

Those who grew up with both parents may not understand, but please take a moment to think of those who are not so fortunate. This law could literally change the world in several ways. One huge result would be less crime, as most criminals are from fatherless families. Less mentally ill people. The list goes on. This is a desperate cry for help from the ones who have to the power to do it. I sent this while Trump was in office and never received a response. We must help struggling parents and children of the future.
