Make declawing cats illegal in the state of Wisconsin

Make declawing cats illegal in the state of Wisconsin
The Issue
Declawing cats is defined as "the amputation of the last bone of each toe" if performed on a human it would be like amputating each finger off at the last knuckle. Cats need their claws for balancing, walking, grooming, exercising, and more. Many people declaw their cats out of personal reasons such as scratching furniture, convenience, scratching of the person, lack of knowledge, rental requirements, and because others simply do it. It is an expensive and unnecessary surgery that leaves the cat with many complications for the rest of its life. Some complications include infection, litter avoidance, chronic pain, biting, depression, aggression, painful arthritis, physical and mental problems. This often leads to people surrendering their cats to shelters. The good news is there are many alternatives to declawing! some alternatives include frequent nail trimming, Soft Paws vinyl nail caps (inexpensive), provide scratching posts, and more. In 2019 New York became the first state to ban declawing (with exceptions of certain medical conditions that prove more beneficial for the cat), why not make Wisconsin the next? let's be a voice for the voiceless!
