Legalize Smoothbore Flintlock Pistol Duels

Legalize Smoothbore Flintlock Pistol Duels
The Issue
(To correct a misnomer in the title: dueling was never officially outlawed in the United States, but it receives no Constitutional protection, and any attempt to engage in one would likely result in prosecution for a murder of some degree.)
If current society is plagued by one disease above all, it would have to be stagnation (or perhaps a lack of gonads). We see this everywhere, even if we have become numbed by such. Fruitless shouting matches have become the norm in real conversation and “debate”, and as any internet user should know, things aren't any better in the cyberspace.
This halting of progress towards the solution of America’s problems is due to, among other things, the inherent weakness of the spoken word
Unless you’re a freakish mute of sorts, everyone can speak. Unless you’re a freakish person without fingers, you can type on a keyboard, and even then voice recognition has already taken steps to alleviate this. As such, the pen has lost its position as the mightiest of weapons.
There's also an unprecedented safety of speech in our Western World. Don’t get me wrong, the benefits of free speech far outweigh the costs, but when something is free, people will abuse it. That right there is the tragedy of the commons people, except in this case it is the strength of speech.
The sword(or the smoothbore flintlock muzzleloading pistol) meanwhile has retained its ability to take not only men’s lives, but their tongues. If people avoid something that isn't free, they will most certainly quiet down at the thought of death when the challenging letter arrives in their mail/in box.
Call this too “might makes right”. It is, but I shall not consider such an argument valid unless they could propose a solution that is as speedy, as public, and as efficient as the duel.
Dueling is no simple craft. Colonial and Napoleonic weaponry was inaccurate and suffered just as much recoil and drop as any modern firearm, if not more so. By simply removing such a weapon from it’s case you bind yourself to a contract of life and death. No parchment or web page can shield you, and the honor and future of your family or cause is on the line. As such, only crisis of the utmost severity shall receive the honor of the duel. Anything lesser can be resolved by speech , compromise, debate, etc. But in the end, those armaments can fail, lead cannot.
This is no partisan argument. Petty disagreements like gun control can be put to heel by the consecrated supremacy of the duel. Whether lib, con, or some other product of our times, any and all persons can at the least respect the duel, and those with the mettle to partake in them. Besides, only single shot guns will be used, something even anti-gunner loons can agree that the Second Amendment protects.
Call me old fashioned, call me archaic, this is all true. But their is a reason dueling began, and that reason has persisted all the way to this moment in time. The solution then, should remain equally protected.
