Keep Federal funding for long distance Amtrak trips.

Access to the beautiful expanse of the United States is available only by train. The scenery between Chicago and Seattle or Los Angeles is just magnificent. Travelers on Amtrak sit in front of expansive windows for hours awed at the view.
My husband and I, seniors, have ridden the Empire Builder from Chicago to Seattle and back several times during the past ten years; we have been on the Southwest Chief twice and we will be traveling again on both lines this year. We have met many interesting people on the train and I know from first-hand experience that a large percentage of passengers on these routes are senior citizens.
Senior citizens travel on Amtrak. Long-distance routes stop at small cities providing relatively inexpensive means of travel for people who do not live near a large airport. The cost of airfare from small town airports is extremely high.
Defunding Amtrak's long distance routes will profoundly affect the senior citizens who depend on them and will eliminate a historic tradition.
