Combine Election Day with Veterans Day to increase participation in both.

Combine Election Day with Veterans Day to increase participation in both.
The Issue
I need your support and help to combine Veterans Day and Election Day in the United States of America combining the two days into one Federal National Holiday. This would help place more importance on both and will allow and encourage more people to participate in the voting process and Veterans Day activities.
Over my lifetime I have noticed varying waves of patriotism in the U.S. I am too young to remember the wave of patriotism during World War II, but I am old enough to remember and be part of the patriotism that followed. Our nation was on a patriotic high. Veterans were honored for their part in defending the United States. This patriotic high started dropping off during the Korean War and dropped even further, maybe to an all-time low, during and following the Vietnam War. Then in November of 1979 once again our patriotism started to rise at the onset of the Iran Hostage Crisis. After the hostages were freed patriotism waned again until the First Gulf War. There were smaller waves of patriotism following the First Gulf War and until we rode the tsunami of public patriotism following 9/11. But that wave too has crested and fallen.
So my first hope is to thank U.S. Veterans in a manner I have not seen before. We would bestow the honor and recognition that without the Veterans of the United States Uniformed Services and their defense of the Constitution we may not have, or be able to maintain, our right and ability to vote in the United States. It is also my hope that this action would give more people the opportunity to attend Veterans Day celebrations, and would get more people out to vote.
As Election Day is specifically written in law as the first Tuesday after November 1, it would be a major undertaking to change. However, since Veterans Day is already a federal holiday, moving the observance of Veterans Day from November 11 each year to the first Tuesday in November each year will not create any additional holidays. But it will make Election Day fall on a national federal holiday freeing many more people to exercise their right to vote and participate in the process.
Changing the day of observance of Veterans Day was attempted in 1971 and then changed back to November 11 in 1975. But that change had a different agenda and lacked any universal sense of the public patriotism and public remembrance so richly deserved.
Let's honor the sacrifices of Veterans and all who served to protect our right to vote by highlighting the importance of both Veterans Day and Election Day with this change.
