Being 16 at the moment, I'm concerned about where our policies are going. These chemicals are carcinogenic (cause cancer). Meanwhile they're in practically all packaging in "U.S. Human Consumption". It's insane to have the produce we eat silently, but surely, harming our health. Where 160 governments have begun, we can too. Countries like Japan, the U.K. and many of the European Nations have already expelled these chemicals. 

     The effect they have on our bodies are not long-term for us, but they will be for our children. The problem with these chemicals is that they will affect future generations, even those in the womb through the food they and their mothers consume. Many come to this country on a daily basis to improve their lives. Our country is supposed to give the opportunity of a higher standard of living. BHT & BHA surely do not preserve better than they harm.  

      I looked up the amount of food wasted each year. "Today, as much as 40 percent of food produced in America is thrown away."1  The question remains: Which is the purpose of these preservatives? If it's not to preserve food from spoiling. Yet so much, almost half of our daily commodities (food wise) are being disposed of.
