Better Sexual Education In High schools

The Issue

The sexual education we have in this country is a dangerous injustice to our youth! Our country promotes an abstinence only sexual education system. Or government funds this type of education.

This is not a realistic approach. We are in denial while young people are still out there having sex and not having the best information to keep them safe. currently only 38% of the schools in this country provide all 19
topics identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as critical sex education topics. We are failing our youth here.

We need our sexual education classes in the high school level to be taught freshmen year by trained professionals! research has shown that a comprehensive sexuality education benefits our youth in the following ways.

-prevent sexual abuse, dating violence, and bullying

-help young people develop healthier relationships

-delay sexual initiation

-reduce unintended pregnancy, HIV, and other STIs

-reduce sexual health disparities among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ)
young people.

We need to stop this dangerous thing we currently call sex education. There are currently no federal funding for a comprehensive sexuality education! This needs to change. We need it to change to better prepare our youth when they ultimately decide to engage in sexual relationships.

What can we ask of members of congress?

-Support increased funding for adolescent sexual health promotion programs in Fiscal Year (FY) 2019

-Eliminate federal funding for abstinence-only-until-marriage programs in FY 2019,

-Cosponsor the Real Education for Healthy Youth Act (REHYA)

We need to stop accepting this lack of sexual education in out school system and demand better today!
