Abolish Qualified Immunity.

Demand That Your Elected Officials Abolish Qualified Immunity.

Abolishing Qualified immunity is the civil rights issue of our era. Law enforcement officers and government officials who commit violence against the people they are supposed to protect must be held accountable for their actions; they are not above the law.

Qualified immunity is a judicially created doctrine that shields law enforcement officers and government officials from being held personally liable for constitutional violations.

Following the civil war in 1871, to protect former slaves from the Ku Klux Klan terrors in the South, Congress passed a law allowing individuals to sue government officials and police officers who violated their civil rights. In 1967, the Supreme Court introduced the "Good Faith doctrine" to protect police from being sued. This later became known as The Qualified Immunity doctrine. This makes it impossible for victims to get justice in court. And yet, Qualified Immunity does not exist anywhere in the Constitution.

Congress previously attempted to pass legislation to end Qualified Immunity so that law enforcement officials would be held accountable for their actions. So far, Congress has not succeeded to remove the doctrine.

Please sign this petition to urge Congress to abolish this unconstitutional, court-imposed doctrine.
