Temporarily Ban Campfires in Federal Campgrounds.

Temporarily Ban Campfires in Federal Campgrounds.

Federally maintained campgrounds are still allowing campfires in the midst of a severe drought and historic forest fires that are consuming small towns. Many of these federally maintained camp sites are in close proximity to populated small towns and rural residential areas. Local and State fire departments have no jurisdiction on U.S. Forest Service land and are powerless to influence any type of ban on open fires. Regardless of the ignition source of current fires, it is critical that we all take necessary measures to stop catastrophic fires from starting. Again, the U.S. Forest Service is currently ALLOWING OPEN FIRES in Federal campgrounds. Many people have died and thousands of people have been displaced because of recent fires that have destroyed communities like the ones we live in. Please sign this petition to urge a temporary ban on open fires in U.S. Forest Service maintained campgrounds.
