A new President in office comes with many changes and alterations which are made to legislation and regulations during each term. Of these changes comes Executive Order 13771. The order reduces regulations and funding for agencies like Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Fish and Wildlife (F&W), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as well as changes to Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act (ESA). These changes intimidate the protective services we have in place for endangered, vulnerable, and threatened species. This could severely damage the progress we have already made in the protection of these species. Changes to the ESA could have dire lasting effects on at-risk species and the species habitats. If the regulations provided by the ESA had not been in place in the 1970s, the bald eagle and the grey whale would be extinct today. The ESA aims to provide a framework to conserve and protect endangered and threatened species and their habitats. With this petition, I hope to cease any further changes and alterations to the Endangered Species Act. Through this, we can continue to research these animals and prevent them from extinction.
