Help Save Migratory Birds

The Issue

The number of birds in the United States and Canada has fallen by 29% since 1970. There are now nearly 3 billion fewer birds than there were just 50 years ago, yet the Trump administration has severely weakened the Migratory Bird Treaty Act — our nation’s most powerful bird protection law.

Weakening the Migratory Bird Treaty Act has left hundreds of species of waterfowl, raptors and songbirds without safeguards they desperately need to survive.

It's a harmful move that will allow corporations to get away scot-free with killing birds, whether they're landing on polluted ponds left uncovered by the oil and gas industry or have their nest trees cut out from under them.

Tell the Service that birds need their protection restored — and that industry shouldn't be allowed to kill birds, even by accident, without punishment.

Many bird species are already declining from habitat destruction and a host of other threats. The administration's decision to let industry, and even government agencies, kill them with impunity is driven by pure greed.

By reducing the scope of this important law, the Service is opening the door to more reckless killing of birds. We're in the middle of a mass wildlife extinction crisis. Birds need more protection, not less.

Act now to insist the Service withdraw this rule to weaken the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
