Dear Craig Glidden, General Counsel, General Motors,

In this email I have copied Erik Soskin, Inspector General, US Department of Transportation, Office of Inspector General, and the NHTSA Whistleblower,

GM's recall of vehicles that have both LED DRLs and headlights on at the same time proves that GM knows that the visible radiation emitted by LEDs is a directed energy beam that does not follow an inverse square law for dispersion and that the use of 6500K CCT further increases the dangers of GM's headlights and DRLs.  The recall of the vehicles that have both DRLs and headlights turned on at the same time is only going to patch a particular problem, but does not solve the fact that GM's use of LED headlights violates FMVSS-108 regulations and the 1966 Motor Vehicle Safety Act.  It is this knowledge that GM has now proven to be aware of and GM's continued use of LED headlights and GM's failure to recall all GM vehicles with LED headlights that makes GM liable. Volkswagen was required to pay $25 Billion for their emissions scandal.  GM will likely be required to pay a similar fine because GM KNOWS THAT LED HEADLIGHTS DO NOT COMPLY WITH FEDERAL SAFETY STANDARDS AND GM KNOWS THAT LED HEADLIGHTS ARE EXCEEDINGLY DANGEROUS.  (https://www.motorsafety.org/gm-recalls-cars-because-of-blinding-headlights-%EF%BF%BC/?)

Below are two quotes from our petition in the last 24 hours. (https://www.change.org/p/u-s-dot-ban-blinding-headlights-and-save-lives/c

Quote 1: I've been a truck driver for over 16 years and I'm on the road a lot at night. The led headlights are essentially like having your high beams on constantly. I'm beginning to have frequent headaches and unable to scan the road as well as before the led headlights were introduced. The excessive brightness of the "daytime" classified headlights create dangerous situations whether someone is passing me or crossing my path on the highway. In order to keep everyone safe; we need to ban these headlights.

Quote 2: I have had to stop my car in the middle of the road suddenly because I could no longer see the road and a drop off was to my right; the oncoming car momentarily blinded me with their headlights. I have run off the road on two occasions because I couldn’t see after passing a car with LED headlights. I have to sit crouched down and toward the middle of my car if they are behind me OR position my mirrors to an unsafe place to keep the glare out of my eyes. I have had to pull off the road many times to just let the person pass me because I couldn’t drive due to their headlights. This is a huge safety hazard!!!

Our petition has added 405 signatures just in the past few weeks.  NHTSA has never in their history received this number of complaints about any topic.  The public is fed up with GM putting their lives in danger by failing to comply with federal safety regulations.  When is GM going to apply to the FDA for approval to use LED devices?  What is GM doing about the epileptic seizures and debilitating migraines caused by LED headlights?  What is GM doing about the truck drivers that are saying that they cannot drive safely anymore due to GM's use of dangerous LED headlights?

You have not replied to any of the previous emails that I have sent you, so I am not expecting a reply this time either, but this email is evidence for future legal cases against GM.  GM KNOWS.

Sincerely,

Mark Baker
